RESEARCH POLICY AND USE & REPRODUCTION FEES

The Archives Center is open by appointment only, and all research is to be conducted with the assistance of one of the LBM's Archivists.

All researchers must use pencils only. In addition, researchers must wear gloves (either latex or cotton) depending on the type of document consulted. 

​

All food and drink items must be left outside of the Archives consultation rooms. Permission may, however, be granted for water bottles. 

On-site Research

There is a fixed $10 fee to initiate research and open a research dossier. This initial fee is waived for students (with the presentation of a valid student card) and for members in good standing, on presentation of a valid proof of contribution.

Following the opening of a research dossier, there is a charge of $25 per hour, with a maximum charge of $75 per day.  These fees include locating, preparing and handling documents. For members in good standing, upon presentation of a valid proof of dues, the first hour is priced at $25, and the following hours (of the same day) are priced at $5 per hour

The time required to research, locate and prepare the documents will be proportional to the accuracy of the request and the information provided by the researcher. 

Research requests via email, telephone and mail 

There is a fixed $10 fee to initiate research and open a research dossier. This initial fee is waived for students (with the presentation of their student card) and for members in good standing.

Following the opening of a research dossier, there is a minimum charge of $25 per hour, When opening a research file, a preliminary agreement will be established between the researcher and the Archives Center in order to set the allotted time to complete the initial research according to the type and complexity of the request.

The time required to research, locate and prepare the documents will be proportional to the accuracy of the request and the information provided by the researcher. 

Reproduction and digitization fees

  • Research requests will be processed upon the receipt of payment.

  • Research, consultation, reproduction and copyright fees are subject to change without notice.

  • Only documents in the public domain (without copyright restrictions) can be digitized and used for publication. 

 

Photocopies

8 ½ X 11 (all purpose paper) $0,75 (Price per sheet)

 

Digitization

​

$25 for the first image or pdf document (maximum 15 pages), $5 for each subsequent image or document (maximum 15 pages).

​

Digitizations produced at 600 dpi unless other resolution is requested.

​

Special rates for large orders may be negotiated on a case by case basis.

 

Postage and handling fees

​

Shipping costs will be charged according to the postal rates in force at the time of the posting of the documents, taking into account the weight and destination of the documents.

Methods of payment

The Archives Center accepts the following payment methods :

  • Credit Card: payments can be made via both Visa or Mastercard.

​​

  • Interac Transfer : payments can also be made via Interac/E-transfer. The payment can be sent to the following email address : info@shcb.ca Your password should match your BCHS research file number.

​​

  • Cash: payments can be made in cash. Please note that $100 bills are not accepted. 

​​

  • Cheque : payments by cheque are also accepted and must be made payable to:                «  Brome County Historical Society » and send to the following address : 130 rue Lakeside, Knowlton (Québec) JOE 1VO.
