The Lac-Brome Museum is growing and needs your help

Why this new building project is important for the future of Lac-Brome Museum?

Why are we growing?

A feasibility study commissioned by the BCHS concluded that major renovations and expansion of the Lac-Brome Museum space are essential to realize our vision and our mission over the next 5+ years. The museum has severe shortages of space for exhibitions, collections storage, public meeting areas and offices.

What do we plan to build?

During 2024, the BCHS committee and management team embarked on a multi-phase project to upgrade the entire museum over the next 5 years:

  • Phase I (2025/2026): Construction of a 6000 ft2 multi-purpose building with exhibition, meeting and public spaces, plus modern museum storage facilities in the basement. It is an extension that will be attached to the Centennial Building to avoid long delays typically experienced with historic building renovations

  • Phase II (2026-2029): Sequential upgrades/renovations to the historic buildings on campus.  Our first priority is the Academy/Annex structure, as the Fokker plane and its galleries are critical to preserve and to display to the public. Repairs/renovations to the rest of the buildings to be scheduled over the next 4-5 years.

The new facility will dramatically improve visitor experiences and increase the number of permanent and temporary exhibits.  It will triple the volume of exhibit areas that can be seen visited during winter and will provide the community with public areas for meetings and events.  And the new space will permit the BCHS to better meet museum industry standards for heating/cooling and humidity.

Project Financing

Project financing is well underway

On March 12, 2025 the Honourable Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities), announced that the Lac-Brome Museum expansion project has been approved by the federal government for a grant of up to $2.2 million.

The BCHS is responsible to provide funding for a significant portion of the project

The federal grant of $2.2 million (max.) represents 60% of construction costs.  To secure the grant funds, we are required to raise a minimum of $1,500,000 (40% of project) from private donors.

We need your support to turn this dream into a reality.
