VERNISSAGE — THE LONG ROAD HOME

On November 11, 1918, the German Empire surrendered to the Allied forces bringing an end to the fighting on the Western Front. However, for the Canadian soldiers stationed in Europe, the War did not end overnight. Some crossed the Rhine to occupy Germany, others went to fight in Russia, while others waited for demobilisation. The newest exhibition at the Brome County History Society (BCHS), A Long Road Home, explores the journeys, both literal and metaphorical, individuals and communities across Canada had to undergo to ‘come home’ from the War.

 

The members of the BCHS and the general public is invited to join us to mark the opening of this new exhibition with a wine & cheese vernissage in the company of the Curator and BCHS DIrectors on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 5.00 – 7.00 p.m. The event is free and open to all.

Le 11 novembre 1918, l'Empire allemand se rendit aux forces alliées, mettant ainsi fin aux combats sur le front occidental. Cependant, pour les soldats canadiens stationnés en Europe, la guerre ne s'est pas terminée du jour au lendemain. Certains ont traversé le Rhin pour occuper l'Allemagne, d'autres sont allés se battre en Russie ou attendaient d’être rapatriés. La nouvelle exposition de la Société d'histoire du comté de Brome (SHCB), Une route sans fin, explore les voyages, au sens propre et figuré, que les individus et les communautés du Canada ont dû traverser pour que les soldats « rentrent chez eux » après la guerre. 

Les membres de la SHCB et le grand public sont invités à se joindre à nous pour marquer l'ouverture de cette nouvelle exposition lors du vernissage avec vins et fromages, en compagnie des directeurs et du conservateur du musée, le vendredi 11 octobre 2019, de 17 h à 19 h. L'événement est gratuit et ouvert à tous.
