Documentary Heritage Communities Program
2018-2019

The LBM was successful in receiving funding from the Documentary Heritage Communities 2018-2019 Program for its project entitled “Preservation and Digitization of BCHS Great War Collection”.  The project, which began in early May 2018 and is expected to be completed by mid-March 2019 has been made possible by the Government of Canada.

The project has three main objectives:

(1) to digitize the collection of textual records, photographs, maps, scrapbooks, etc. pertaining to the local soldiers who fought in World War I;

(2) to preserve these documents according to accepted Canadian standards; and

(3) to upload the PDF of each textual record onto the Eastern Townships Archives Portal (townshipsarchives.ca) in order to make the collection accessible to a larger public.All three objectives support the BCHS’s archival mission which is to preserve and share Brome County’s rich cultural heritage with a broader and diverse audience.

Short biographies of the soldiers from Brome County who served in World War I will be made available on the Eastern Townships Archives Portal.
