The Tibbits Hill Schoolhouse was built sometime before 1808, though no exact date of construction can be determined. The land, one quarter acre, belonged to the heirs of Joseph Tibbits and was given to the School Commissioners of the Township of Brome in 1844. The current one-room fieldstone structure of the Schoolhouse was built in that same year to replace a log building which had been erected in 1827. It served English-speaking pupils in the area until 1928. It was given to the Brome County Historical Society in 1937 by the Township of Brome School Commission. It was set up as part of the Museum in 1967.
 
Schoolhouses of this kind were common throughout the Eastern Townships and devoted women taught local children at the elementary school level until school structures changed in the area in the mid-1960s.

Les écoles de ce type étaient courantes dans les Cantons-de-l’Est. Des femmes dévouées y enseignaient aux enfants de la région jusqu’à la réforme du système scolaire au milieu des années 1960.
